June GEO Updates: Making AI Search Visibility More Measurable

Google’s June reporting announcement adds another dimension to search performance: whether your content appears within AI-generated answers.

Search visibility now includes more than a position in a list of links. Customers may encounter your business through an AI-generated answer, a cited source or a recommendation before visiting your website.

June brought a useful development in understanding that exposure, alongside a practical reminder: clear information and credible evidence remain essential.

Google Announced Dedicated AI Performance Reports

On 3 June, Google announced Search Generative AI performance reports in Search Console. The reports provide impression data for URLs appearing within its generative search experiences, including AI Overviews and AI Mode.

At launch, Google was testing access with a subset of website owners. The announcement introduced a more direct way to investigate AI search visibility alongside existing search performance data. Read Google’s announcement.

Visibility Needs Context

An impression tells you a URL appeared. Understanding its business value requires further investigation.

Which pages are being surfaced? What questions do they answer? Are those questions relevant to the customers you want to attract?

Use Google Search Console reporting alongside website analytics and enquiry or sales data. Look for useful patterns without assuming that every AI impression produces a visit, or that an increase in visibility caused a change in revenue.

Give Search Systems Clearer Information

Generative engine optimisation concerns how AI systems identify, describe and cite your business. A practical starting point is improving the information customers need when evaluating your offer.

Review your key product and service pages:

  • Explain what you provide and who it suits.
  • Answer questions about process, suitability, delivery and pricing.
  • Support claims with relevant case studies, reviews and evidence.
  • Keep business details consistent across your website and other profiles.
  • Maintain technical SEO foundations and accurate structured data where appropriate.

These steps support a useful SEO content strategy and make your business easier to understand. They do not guarantee inclusion in an AI answer.

Check How Your Brand Is Described

Create a small set of realistic customer questions and test them across the AI tools relevant to your audience.

Record whether your business appears, how it is described and which sources are cited. Look for recurring gaps: an outdated service description, confusion about your location, or little evidence of a key specialism.

Treat individual responses as snapshots. Answers can vary between tools, prompts and sessions. Address reliable information gaps rather than rewriting your website around a single result.

Our Take

SEO and AI search belong in the same planning conversation. Customers still need useful answers, accurate information and reasons to trust your business.

June’s reporting announcement adds another way to investigate where your content appears. The next step is using that evidence to improve your organic search strategy while keeping enquiries, sales and customer quality in view.
